16th Joint Geomorphological Meeting Morphoevolution of tectonically active belts

Associazione Italiana di Geografia fisica e Geomorfologia, Associata Geomorfologilor din Romania, Belgian Association of Geomorphologists, Groupe Français de Géomorphologie and Hellenic Committee for Geomorphology and Environment under the auspices of the IAG/AIG invite you at the 16th Joint Geomorphological Meeting (JGM) Morphoevolution of Tectonically Active Belts which will be held in Rome, Italy. The primary aim of this informal meeting is to favor field experiences on the complex geomorphic response to tectonics in active belts, and to promote discussion and future scientific cooperation among group of researchers sharing the same scientific interest.

Sandstone Landscapes III conference
Kudowa-Zdrój, Poland, 25-28 April 2012
IAG/AIG Danxia Geomorphology Working Group has become co-organizer of the Sandstone Landscapes III conference, to be held in Kudowa-Zdrój, SW Poland, on 25-28 April 2012. This conference is intended to provide a forum to communicate results of research on various aspects of sandstone landscapes from many different parts of the world. There will be a particular focus on linkages between different components of natural systems and sustainable management of sandstone areas, many of which are protected for their scenic, earth science, biological or cultural reasons. Field sessions will also give conference participants the opportunity to visit one of the most spectacular sandstone areas in central Europe, including the famous table hill of Szczeliniec Wielki, visited by Johann Wolfgang Goethe in 1790. People working on geomorphology of sandstone terrains are particularly invited to come.

Amplified climate change and ecological sensitivity of high-latitude and high-altitude cold climate environments has been highlighted as a key global environmental issue. Projected climate change in cold regions is expected to alter melt season duration and intensity, along with the number of extreme rainfall events, total annual precipitation and the balance between snowfall and rainfall. Similarly, changes to the thermal balance are expected to reduce the extent of permafrost and seasonal ground frost and increase active layer depths. These effects will undoubtedly change surface environments in cold regions and alter the fluxes of sediments, nutrients and solutes, but the absence of quantitative data and coordinated process monitoring and analysis to understand the sensitivity of the Earth surface environment is acute in cold climate environments.

IAG/AIG International Workshop on Objective Geomorphological Representation Models: Breaking through a New Geomorphological Mapping Frontier Salerno, October 15-19, 2012, Italy
The IAG/AIG WG on Apllied Geomorphological Mapping, the Italian Association of Physical Geography and Geomorphology (AIGEO), the University of Salerno, with the support of National Park Cilento and Vallo di Diano, and Geoparks are organizing an International Workshop on "Objective Geomorphological Representation Models: Breaking through a New Geomorphological Mapping Frontier" on 15-19 October 2012, in the Salerno University Campus, Italy. This comes as a natural follow up on the recently published book 'Geomorphological Mapping methods and applications' edited by the AppGeMa IAG WG....
