BACKGROUND
Water is a vital resource, necessary for all aspects of human and ecosystem survival and health. Water is not only essential to sustain life, but to support ecosystems, economic development, community well-being, and cultural values. Water no longer can be taken for granted. For the present and future generations, adequate food and water will have to be ensured. In view of this the water resources planners and engineers have the most challenging task before them for concurrent maintenance and management of the resource base and the environment.
In the recent years, many advanced technologies have been evolved in engineering field such as remote sensing, GIS, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, etc. along with the optimization techniques. Solution to most of the engineering problems, have become easier by application of these technologies. Water Resources is the thrust area where we need advance technologies for overall management.
OBJECTIVES
The short-term course aims to include the following themes with particular emphasis to water resources: Artificial Neural Networks Fuzzy Logic, Optimization Techniques, Remote Sensing Techniques Geographic Information Systems.
PROGRAMME CONTENTS
The workshop will provide an insight about the remote sensing, GIS, artificial neural networks, fuzzy logic, etc. and their use in hydrological modelling. The various modules that form the major content of the programme are:
* MATLAB
* Fuzzy logic
* Artificial Neural Network
* Remote Sensing – GIS
* Image Processing using MATLAB
DATES AND VENUE
The National Workshop shall be held in the premises of National Institute of Hydrology, Roorkee during 29 October to 2 November, 2012.
ELIGIBILITY OF PARTICIPANTS
The course is intended for all middle/senior level engineers, from central and state government, professionals and officers working in the field of water resources, irrigation, agriculture and related area. Faculty from Universities and Colleges, research scholars, & students etc.
Educational qualification: Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Master's degree in Science or equivalent.
The numbers of seats are limited. The registration shall be done on first come first served basis. Each participant will be given a certificate for attending the workshop.
ABOUT THE VENUE
Roorkee is located at the foothills of Himalayas in the Uttarakhand state. The railway station is on the main line of northern railways having direct link to Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Amritsar Jodhpur and Ganganagar. The place is also within an easy reach from Delhi by road (180 Km) and is located on Delhi- Hardwar and Delhi-Dehradun bus routes. Roorkee is ideally located near several tourist places Dehradun (72 Km), Mussoorie (100 Km), Hardwar (32 Km) and Rishikesh (52 Km).
REGISTRATION FEE
The registration fee per participants shall be
Rs. 8000/- for the Central/State Govt. Officers/ University Faculty;
Rs 10,000/- for the Officers of Private Companies;
US$ 500 from the officers/engineers/professionals from SAARC countries and
Rs. 3000/- for Indian students.
The registration fee will include registration kit, course material, refreshment and working lunch etc. The participants are requested to register themselves by giving details latest by October 10, 2012, along with a demand draft in favor of `Secretary, Indian Association of Hydrologists', payable at Roorkee.
